We were thrilled to have Dr. David Katz, the founder and former director of the Yale University’s Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center and a renowned physician scientist, write the foreword for our book. This excerpt from his foreword truly touched us and captures the essence of what we hoped to accomplish in writing Nourish.

The emphasis here is on families, and that is just right. The emphasis is on engaging children in the lifelong benefits of eating well, and that is just right. The emphasis is on the rightful place of diet in the health of people and planet alike, on the confluence of nourishment and sustainability and kindness, on solidarity and celebration. That is just right.

What sets Nourish apart is that it is all about food for love. Embrace this book, and it all but literally embraces you back. Is it a book or a hug? Maybe both. Lean in, and let this beautiful book nourish your understanding, your motivation, your will-power and skill- power alike. Lean in—and taste the love. What could be more nourishing than that?

What’s inside?

Nourish is organized into four key sections: Consideration, Care, Confidence, and Connection.

CONSIDERATION
explores the fundamental question of why families might consider a plant-based approach to feeding their families, in terms of HEALTH, HOME (climate change), and HEART (animal welfare).

CARE
takes a deep dive into the nutrition and practical aspects of feeding your family by reviewing the necessary macronutrients and micronutrients (especially the vitamins and minerals that may present a challenge to parents); after summarizing the key aspects of putting together a diet that is nutritionally sound, we follow with a walk through of the various ages and stages of growth—pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence.

CONFIDENCE
is about supporting parents in a way that positions them to be the experts of their family’s nutrition by addressing many of the concerns families face at and around their dinner tables, including establishing a nurturing feeding environment, the importance of family meals, and concerns such as picky eating, pediatric weight related issues, and more.

CONNECTION
brings it all into practice with tips for menu planning and shopping as well as simple, accessible, and delicious plant-based recipes
